WHAT IS ITS PURPOSE?

The purpose of a Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) is to create music using either virtual instrumentation (known as VST = Virtual Studio Technology) or pre-recorded sound loops (samples) and/or a combination of both virtual instruments and sample loops. Various studio sound effects can be applied to enhance the virtual instruments and sample loops. The finished track can be “mastered” through a process of enhancing the sound for the purpose of public consumption e.g. CD Audio disc; MP3 and other digital sound files.

Music Maker 2017 Premium has its own proprietary instruments and effects as well as being able to utilize VST instruments and effects in 32-bits. Music Maker 2017 Premium is a 32-bit application; this is a common standard.

WHY SHOULD YOU CARE?
If you have an inclination to make music then this DAW could very well be for you. There are many motives to create music; you could be video producer wishing to create background and/or incidental music free of copyrights. You may be a budding DJ looking to forge an original sound in an established genre such as Dubstep. And, of course, you may have ambitions to be composer.

Above all, the price-point is very reasonable and therefore it makes the subject of music creation fun.

Incidentally, it is possible to create videos as Music Maker 2017 Premium allows for graphic and video files to be placed on the tracks.

Visually, the interface embodies that of a real music studio. There is a virtual mixing desk whereby individual tracks can be tweaked through various means such as raising or lowering the volume, treated with additional sound effects, and to create a master of overall tracks in a single composition.

HOW DOES TECHNEURAL RATE IT?
As DAW applications go, MAGIX Music Maker 2017 Premium offers very good value for money considering what’s on offer: External VST instruments & effects, video editing (albeit a little limited compared to a dedicated video editing application), and mastering. There is not excuse for not creating professional sounding music. DAWs can cost many times more and you don’t get as many features!
