MAGIX MUSIC MAKER FREE

MAGIX MUSIC MAKER FREE

WHAT IS IT?
It is a Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) albeit limited.

HOW MUCH IS IT?

Free! Gratis!

WHAT IS ITS PURPOSE?

The purpose of this cut down DAW from MAGIX is to introduce the masses to computer music. It features 8 tracks, 3 decent synthesizers, 425 sound and loops, and 8 effects. Yes, it is a very basic yet highly functional version of the Music Maker DAW.

WHY SHOULD YOU CARE?

First and foremost, it is FREE! If, for example, you are a multimedia designer/video producer, you might want to make incidental/background music very, very quickly. You can either use sample loops and/or a combination of sample loops and virtual instruments. These days, you do not need to know how play music... Anyone can purchase a sample loop and one shot genre specific kit and recreate a track from its components (beat, bass, melodic passages, etc.). You can purchase sample loops that MAGIX calls "Soundpools" directly from within the interface as you can see in the screenshot directly above.

You may also have a vague interest into computer music and Music Maker Free will allow you do get a feel for computer music composition without having to pay a single penny from the start!

WHERE CAN I GET IT FROM?
You can download it right now from the MAGIX website: MUSIC MAKER FREE

HOW DOES TECHNEURAL RATE IT?

Well, there is no denying that Music Maker Free is limited... However, you can still bang out some tunes with it that will sound like it has come from a DAW that costs a fair bit! Yes, it is missing the famous Mastering Suite but you can master tracks produced (in Music Maker Free) by using a free audio editor and some freely available VST mastering effects. Don't sweat it!

It would be easy to give it a rating on the fact that it is free, but Techneural is judging it purely on functionality. Music Maker Free is certainly useable! If it had more functions e.g. more synthesizers, effects, and tracks you'd certainly have to pay for it. This is a good start for the beginner and/or the occasional computer music maker!
